Friars- The Traveling Priests

Friars were very much like the monks, except they lived by themselves on the streets. They lived totally on alms and on the money they make by giving sermons to the public. Friars were not allowed to ask for money, just clothing or food. Friars usually didn't know how to read or write and had never had proper schooling.
